The pick of the bunch
The glistening Thao Ngan Hotel sits right in the centre of things in downtown Sa Dec, flanked by the central market on one side and, just a block away to the east, the Sa Dec River and the bustling market which runs along the riverside.
While the mini hotels on the edge of town may offer a few more creature comforts, the rooms here are of a good size and more than comfortable enough for a night or two. Both the rooms we were shown had a two–tone mint hue to them with green drapes and frilly curtains, which made them feel slightly darker than they really were. The bed was simple, with fewer frills than the curtains and just a base sheet, but it was clean.
Facilities include a desk, WiFi throughout, stocked minibar and air-con, and the shower was good and hot. Extremely limited English was spoken at the downstairs reception, but they were friendly nonetheless. At 250,000 dong, this struck us as very good value and the location is excellent.
At the time of writing (mid 2018) the hotel could not be booked online, but they have three floors of rooms so we guess it is rarely full—just show up or perhaps get someone to call to make a reservation (if you can’t speak Vietnamese). Recommended.
