Solid privates for flashpackers
While we still can’t figure out what the name exactly means (any ideas?), centrally located Heritage by Night Hotel offers solid private rooms and dorms that will appeal to flashpackers.
The private rooms are cavernous, perhaps almost too big, as the furniture barely makes a dent in the generous amount of space. There’s plenty of room to spread out and the contents of your pack can find a home on the sitting area, wardrobe and bedside table. Bathrooms are surprisingly swish, with granite countertop and black and white tile shower stall. Amenities include air-con, WiFi, wall mounted flat screen TV and a minibar. Dorms are more intimate but no frills, housing metal bunks and a total of six beds topped with clean linens. It’s not a meet-the-masses kind of dorm like Easy Tiger but Heritage by Night is solid, uncluttered and quiet.

Cindy Fan is a Canadian writer/photographer and author of So Many Miles, a website that chronicles the love of adventure, food and culture. After falling in love with sticky rice and Mekong sunsets, in 2011 she uprooted her life in Toronto to live la vida Laos. She’s travelled to over 40 countries and harbours a deep affection for Africa and Southeast Asia. In between jaunts around the world, she calls Laos and Vietnam home where you’ll find her traipsing through rice paddies, standing beside broken-down buses and in villages laughing with the locals.
