Swish and stylish
Just because you’re in Pham Ngu Lao doesn’t mean you have to stay in a hovel. On the contrary, Town House 373 Saigon represents the growing number of swish, stylish, flashpacker dorms offering a civilised experience on a budget.
Many dorms along the alley at 373 Pham Ngu Lao quoted us US$8 for a dorm bed. So what does an extra $0.50 get? The shoe lockers at the entrance should give you a clue. Most hostels require guests to remove shoes at the entrance yet shoes have been known to disappear. Now you can sleep well knowing your footwear is safe!
The air-con dorm rooms have laminate flooring, windows and metal bunks, each bed with its own electrical outlet and reading light. Lockers are large enough to fit a day pack. A mix of white and painted walls give some character, especially in the shared bathroom which has double sinks and a shower with both a regular and rain showerhead, shower gel and shampoo.
As is the case with many of the hostels we checked out, the private rooms at Town House 373 were full and weren’t available to see. It’s safe to expect the same boutique flashpacker feel. The air-conditioned lobby (another rarity in this alley) has a cafe feel—this is where the included breakfast is served. After breakfast hours, food isn’t available to order but guests are free to hangout/munch on their own snacks in the tables and chairs.
Town House 373 is located near the end of the 373 Pham Ngu Lao alley, at the western edge of the tourist area. Alley 373 is chock full of newish budget accommodation; this place is one of the most refined of the lot and certainly isn’t a party hostel. Instead, it will appeal to budget travellers who like the finer things in backpacking. If you want a party, the many bars of Bui Vien and Pham Ngu Lao are just around the corner.
To fully remove yourself from the backpacker hub, check out their sister property Town House 23 Saigon located closer to the city centre near Ben Thanh market.
