Della Boutique Hotel is a rare find in Ho Chi Minh City, as it boasts dorm accommodation with a location in the downtown core.

The skinny building is on Ham Nghi St, a boulevard now of importance as it’s become a major bus stop for practically all buses in the city. The hotel is directly across from the Bitexco Financial tower, is a hop to Cho Cu market and is300 m to the river or Nguyen Hue promenade. It is also walking distance to Saigon Centre and some fantastic bars and restaurants on Pasteur and Le Loi.

The location is obviously a huge selling point for travellers who want to experience Saigon’s big city life. But flashpackers will also be drawn here by the four ultra-swish, clean, air-con dorms—10-14 beds and accessed via an elevator—that feature sturdy wood bunks with wide beds, each with its own electrical outlet and reading light.

Though there is little privacy between beds, the dorm is indulgently spacious with plenty of open area between the two rows to move around and extra lounge space near the floor to ceiling windows—hurray for natural light. There is a fridge, as well as two gender specific shower/bathroom per floor. Towels and free toiletries are provided. Pictures on their website heavily feature a dorm with stairs for the top bunks. The dorm we inspected only had ladders.

Prefer privacy? The four private rooms here are much pricier than those in Pham Ngu Lao. Clearly they are still a popular choice as they were full so we couldn’t see them. Rooms either have windows or are windowless and come with shower, safety deposit box, flatscreen TV, air-con and WiFi.

The only thing lacking is atmosphere, which is why it is just shy of a top score. It’s a fairly quiet and reserved crowd, though Zuma, the rooftop restaurant/bar provides a five-star view at a flashpacker price.
