Opened in 2015, Hotel Des Arts Saigon MGallery is an elegant, chic city hotel at the northern edge of the downtown core.
Lobbies can set the tone for the entire experience and this hotel’s lobby invites guests to breath a sigh of relief, as well as to look closely to examine the fine details. Crisp white walls and the striking chandelier draw the eye up to the vaulted ceiling. It’s also hard to keep eyes off the silky brocade uniforms of deep midnight blue with magenta flowers. The first impression is that of artistry balanced between modern and antique.
Enough lobby worshipping since you won’t be sleeping there. The hotel has 168 rooms, a rather modest size for a city hotel. We appreciate they’ve kept the room categories simple. The Deluxe is your classic city hotel room, equipped with all the modern amenities, the space softened by sandy hues, clean lines, white linens and simple wall moulding. Bathrooms are urban contemporary. Grand Deluxe and the Suite of course have more space the over-sized bathroom kitted out with a freestanding tub. As to be expected of a newer property, all rooms have a desk, capsule coffee maker, tea, WiFi, minibar, room service, toiletries and power point sensibly placed at the bedside.
Rounding out the luxury, the rooftop bar and infinity pool are photogenic. We also treated ourselves to a treatment at their spa before leaving Saigon and can attest that it is excellent. We don’t normally bleed so much ink over a hotel owned by a major international hospitality group (MGallery is one of Accor’s brands) unless there is good reason to.
Hotel Des Arts Saigon has a good location—not as great as the Park Hyatt or Caravelle, which are right in the core. It’s actually in District 3, but if you examine a map of the districts, it looks as if District 3 has taken a big bite out of the northwest corner of District 1. The southeast corner of District 3 is very central and Hotel Des Arts Saigon is only 400m to Notre Dame Cathedral and the historic post office, 700m to Reunification Palace.

Cindy Fan is a Canadian writer/photographer and author of So Many Miles, a website that chronicles the love of adventure, food and culture. After falling in love with sticky rice and Mekong sunsets, in 2011 she uprooted her life in Toronto to live la vida Laos. She’s travelled to over 40 countries and harbours a deep affection for Africa and Southeast Asia. In between jaunts around the world, she calls Laos and Vietnam home where you'll find her traipsing through rice paddies, standing beside broken-down buses and in villages laughing with the locals.
