If you’re on a strict budget and Cana Hotel is full, then you’re limited to the local guesthouses away from the waterfront, found either in the village or along the highway.

Nhu Y Guesthouse (Nha Nghi Nhu Y) is the best of the bunch and you can look forward to ultra basic motel-style rooms.

It’s charmless but functional, the building a relatively modern one. You get tile floors, mint blue walls, a window with security bars, fan, box TV, air-con and a wetroom bathroom with electric heated shower. Beds have blankets but no top sheet. The entrance to the property has a sliding gate, offering night-time security.

The rate quoted to us seemed steep – perhaps you could negotiate it cheaper without air-con – but there isn’t much choice as some of the other joints we checked out were dismal. Considering the room rate, we’d only stay here if Ca Na Hotel was full. The ultra frugal can walk around and possibly find something cheaper, as Ca Na is very small. Ngu Y is located on the east-west road off of Highway 1A, leading to the harbour. No English spoken.
