Arriving in Burma in January 2017

My girlfriend and I arrived in Burma last week and here are a few things we learned:

Though the e-visa requires you to have proof of onward journey and sufficient funds for your stay, but they didn't ask for proof of either at the airport.

You can pay for everything in Kyat, and Yangon and Bagan have plenty of ATMs. We brought crisp post-2009 $100 US bills, but haven't used them yet.

Take the local train around Yangon, it's interesting. You can hop on and hop off in different towns, and it's only 200 kyat for a day pass (though they hardly check).

Rent an e-bike in Bagan, it's a great way to get around because the area is vast. Just make sure you have enough juice to get you through your day, or you'll have to call your e-bike company and have them pick you up. There are no recharging stations in the area.
