There is but you will inevitably fall victim to some sort of scam / delay / annoyance, so for an extra couple of dollars you can do this trip with relative speed and comfort. Check out my previous post for more detailed info on this journey, just in reverse (it's info for BKK - SR):

and to be honest the trip from SR to BKK is much easier than in the other direction
