HCMC to Phnom Penh - Border Scams

Posted by caroquette on 27/7/2014 at 22:54

I am crossing the border from HCMC to Phnom Penh by bus.
I searched your forum, so I would repeat the question but found nothing...

Any advice/scams/worries about crossing the border?

Giant Ibis does the bus trip for $18. Giant Ibis are highly rated by some as the "luxury" bus service but they haven't lived up to the hype from a few trips I've done with them. When I did Ho Chi Minh to Phnom Penh with them last month they transferred us to a crammed mini bus at the border, apparently because the bus we had been in had to return to Saigon as a result of problems with another bus. Had a good experience with Mekong Express and would choose them in future. Takes 6 hours by bus (if you have a smooth run) and buses depart from Pham Ngu Lao and drop you off at the riverside in Phnom Penh so no time wasted driving to and from airports, checking in etc. I think the bus is a much better option.
