Koh Rong or Koh Rong Samloem (or Koh Thmei)???

Posted by alex_stein on 21/1/2015 at 02:24

So I was pretty sure about Koh Rong (I was looking at the Monkey Island bungalows) but it seems I haven't done enough research and that maybe Koh Rong Samloem (or Koh Thmei) could also be good options. Obviously looking for the most beautiful place to be for a few days, and my girlfriend will want to do diving, so that will be a factor. It would be good if there are some other activities like trekking. I just need a place to sit and read and write. Any experiences to share? Which is quieter, for example? Thanks!

Hello,
Monkey Island is on Koh Rong , Koh Rong is a busy loud place at the moment. Monkey Island and Paradise Bungalows are two nice places to stay/hang-out but you will hear music almost all night long from a few bars a bit further down the beach.
Kor Rong is big so you have possibilities to go see the waterfall (don't know if there is any water now though) and there is a zipline place as well. Possibilities to dive as well.
Koh rong Samloem is quieter and less packed with young partygoers. You can dive there as well as a few dive center are sttled there.
Another island on the other side is Koh Ta Kiev where I advice to go to the Last Point, Koh ta kiev is mega quiet and eveery GH is secluded from the other.
If not, Otres is a great place to stay, the beach is beeautiful and it's quieter than Ocheuteul.
Enjoy your Holidays

Just spent a week on Koh Ta Kiev at Coral Beach. Lovely place with bungalows for $15-20 and excellent food. $10 boat with return from Otres 2. Highly recommend this island. Few people and some nice walks around. Not a party place. Check out our blog for pics and info: https://somuchtravel.wordpress.com/2015/02/14/battambang-to-the-beach-sihanoukville-cambodia/

Didn't make it to Koh Rong , decided to stay extra days on Koh Ta Kiev instead. We read too many negative things about Koh Rong - crazy parties, rats, etc. We found Coral Beach to be really relaxing and great people. You have to call them to book. It is really rustic though. There are a couple of other places on KTK too - Ten102 Treehouse or something like that right next to Coral Beach. Otres 1 Beach was also nice- we stayed at Otres Beach Guesthouse ($20 fan room) after staying at a terrible place called Jungle of Cambodia (rats, roaches and termites). Also, great pizza place called Pappa Pippo in Otres 1 - especially if you haven't had pizza in months.

Phu Quoc was not as nice as expected. It was overrun with tourists and very expensive. Cheapest rooms were $30 and they were just ok. Beaches were packed with people touting things. You can find quieter beaches but the only places to stay near those are resorts. It was also kind of tough to get to. We were disappointed by it.
