5 days in Cambodia

Posted by mrakovan on 10/6/2016 at 19:49

Hello, we have 5 days 4 nights in Cambodia but we have a hard time deciding if we should stay in Siem Reap the whole time or spend 1 night in Phnom Penh. We will either fly to Saigon on the 5th day or bus/taxi on the 4th day to PP, spend a night in PP and then to Saigon on the 5th day. We will be there in January. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Siem Reap sounds good. You can refer an itinerary:https://www.travelfish.org/trip_planner#itinerary-133

I'd probably just stay in Siem Reap, if it were me. Lots to do there; I doubt you'll be bored after five days. Enjoy Cambodia!

Agree with Michael, you would waste best part of a day going to PP and not the most scenic of rides (pleasant enough though)

Put the 4th day to more use and do something in the area

it is a long way to go just for a sunset cruise and I remain of the view it would be better to use the day in and around Siem Reap

Angkor Wat is the most impressive sight anyway, so I would just take my time and explore it properly.

Accomodation in Siem Reap is more affordable than Saigon. Phnom Penh doesn't really have much to allure unless you have time to go deeper south to Kampot or Kep. These K places are wonderful places. Otherwise the only thing really nice about the bustling capital is the $4 mojito.

Also to me Ho Chi Minh City is one of the most hateable cities filled with snatch thieves and rogues. I am not harsh on my words. Flash your phone along the road and it will be gone in moments, Even the locals tell you that. Expensive, sleazy and really lawless.

I agree it is not worth all that travel for just one day in PP, though personally I like the place. 4 -5 days in Siem Reap is ideal, you can really take your time over all the temples, not just the big draw of Angkor and fit in a floating market / massage/ shopping etc. Personally I loved Saigon.....
