Dear all, congratulations for The New York Times vote. Travelfish is most valuable to me while on my first trip to SE Asia. Food, directions and things to do. Hotels occasionally.
Today's question is: We are in PP at the moment, going to Kep for 2 nights, than 5 nights in Kampot . I thought about maybe going directly to Kampot from PP, leave our luggage our Kampot Hotel, rent a motorbike for 2 days to go to Kep and come back 2 days later. Would that be a good plan?
In Kep, we want to go visit the pepper farms and go on Rabbit Island, so maybe having the motorbike would be less complicated for transportation around Kep. How is the traffic? We did Bolaven plateau in Laos and it was Ok for the experience we have with motorbike.
Or should we just go to Kep directly and come back to Kampot after the 2 night?
Transport between the two towns of Kep & Kampot is easy and takes about 30mins if you go by tuk tuk (a little longer if you motorbike).
We found Kep a little on the quiet side and so would say 2days is enough. We stayed for 3nights though at Khmer Hands which we enjoyed - very helpful & friendly staff.
An alternative option is to visit Kep from Kampot on a day trip as there is more to see/do/places to stay in Kampot. Would recommend the Bokor National Park if in Kampot, amazing quiet roads and some good views.
We did the Thakhek loop and a bit of the Bolaven Plateau - traffic wise its similar between Kep & Kampot and felt safe (we're both not qualified bikers).
Hope that helps, let us know if you have any other questions.

Yes you can go with that idea..to go Kampot directly from PP..and just leave your luggage in Kampot hotel itself and you can go with two option either you hire a car or rent a motorbike for two days to go to Kep..hiring a car will be more easier and comfortable for you..

Stay at Captain Chims in Kampot and do a night boat trip. Stock up with a bottle of rum, some cokes and chill with friends. Hire a bike for a day and go up the plateau to the old casino.
Thanks to you all for the advices. Here is what we did: we took direct bus from Pnomph Penh to Kep . We stayed 2 nights in Kep( wish we had stayed 3, because our hotel"Le bout du monde" had gorgeous sea view, jungle, and Our backyard was Kep National Park). Went to Koh Tonsay one day(loved it). Last morning went for a hike in National Park. Then hired a Tuk Tuk at 1:00 pm from hotel, went to visit the pepper farms and went with the same Tuk Tuk to Kampot for $22.00. I think it was pretty efficient. Were in Kampot by 4:00 pm.
