Itinerary help for Cambodia

Posted by Jugurtha on 25/9/2017 at 23:02

Hello, our family 2 adults and 2 kids aged 10 and 9 will be travelling to Cambodia and Laos in January.
We prefer quieter towns where we can walk or ride a bike with not too much traffic and fun/interesting things for the kids to do. We would appreciate any suggestions in amending the below itinerary, whether re-allocating time at destinations to leaving destinations off to avoid too much travel:

- 4 nights Siem Reap (Siem Reap dates are fixed)

>> taxi or bus to Battambang

- 2 nights Battambang

>>taxi or bus to Phnom Penh

-2 nights Phnom Penh

>> taxi to Kampot

- 3 nights Kampot

>> taxi Kampot to Phnom Penh airport for early evening flight to Vientiane.

We do have one spare day up oursleeves we could take from Laos, so we could add extra day in Kampot ot Battamabng? Thanks.

Have you considered adding in Kep —you could continue to there from Kampot , there is a small national park with a viewpoint suitable for kids and a pretty beach area—also plenty of great places to stay.

As much as I love Battambang, I'd lean towards taking a night off Kampot and adding in Kep for two nights or at least visiting it for a day from Kampot. From Kep is a straightforward taxi run back to Phnom Penh.

Note that most taxis in Cambodia do not have seatbelts in the back seat, so if you're booking a ride through your accommodation, do put a request for one with seatbelts—safer for the kids (well, for everyone!)

I would not add to Kampot and personally I prefer kampot to Kep BUT I am not sure which your kids would enjoy most - you can easily visit kep for the day and make sure you try the seafood
