Ordinary visa

Is it possible to acquire an ordinary (EG) visa on arrival in Cambodia? We will plan to be in Cambodia for more than 30 days (more likely towards three months) and may look for work to help tide us over while there, so a regular 30 day tourist visa wouldn't be appropriate.

My understand is that you can get the $35 business visa on entry which can then be renewed

the best place to make 100% certain is to email the official government site - they usually respond quickly and are very helpful

This may be a bit late for you but it's definitely possible to get the 'ordinary' aka e-visa aka business visa on arrival. (I did it yesterday). You'll pobably get the application form on your flight in and you just need to tick the appropriate box for the type of visa.

You may have a problem extending your stay though as it's not an automatic renewal as it used to be. You may be required to bring an authorisation from your workplace for example when you apply for the renewal.
