Southern Cambodia

We are traveling for 6 months and our 2 college kids are joining us in Cambodia and Laos for 3 weeks in Dec-Jan. We wanted to have a relaxing hiatus in southern Cambodia over New Years. We were thinking Koh Rong but the hotel we had booked cancelled our reservation (apparently they closed). I am now wondering if we even want to go to that area with the reviews I’m reading. Any advice for a relaxing couple days before we head to Laos would be appreciated. Thanks! Lillian

Much depends on if beach is a necessary pre-requisite, if so these two links might help

Clearly booking at that time is important on the islands and indeed in many other places that are busy

If you want something completely different then you could chill out in the village of Chi Phat a place I have spent many new years both western and Khmer no need to exert yourself by trekking if you don't want to just sit back and enjoy the hospitality of the village
