Kampong or Can Tho or somewhere in between?

Posted by sharontreloar on 25/5/2019 at 04:58

In late September my family of 4 (2 x teen girls and 2 x 50 year olds) are travelling south from Siem Reap (via Battambang & Phnom Penh) to Kampot for 3 nights. We’ve got 2 days to get from Kampot to Saigon before flying home.

QUESTION: Should we shorten our stay in Kampong then head to Can Tho for a couple of nights before heading to Saigon (we are interested in the Mekong Delta area, but never been there)?

Stay an extra night each in Kampong and PP?

Is there somewhere roughly halfway between Kampong and Saigon on the bus route that would be good to explore?

We generally like smaller, less touristy places. We like markets and interesting architecture (not necessary fancy or upmarket, wooden shacks are beautiful too!), and animals and boats and alleyways and street food... We don’t like long travel stints then short stays.

Is Kampong interesting enough for more nights there?

What are your thoughts?

Do you mean Kampot rather than Kampong?

You will spend best part of a day getting from Kampot to Can Tho meaning that just spending a night there would not give you much time to see anything BUT with 4 of you the option of hiring a taxi taking a touristic route from Can Tho to HCMC could be an attractive option

Forget night buses
