Self-Guided/DIY Bike Mekong Advice?

Posted by lukasf on 21/10/2014 at 22:43

Does anyone have any advice about where to find route maps/directions and other logistics info about cycling the Mekong Delta, please? We are hoping to go for about 4-5 days without a guide. We are intermediate bikers.

I have cycled around Asia just using my Android tablet with GPS. Get to know google maps and you can find your way around anywhere. On the fly you can make hotel bookings and everything.

Its nice to have a rough itinerary before you start, but the fine tuning can be done as you travel. For an internet connection you can either use wireless or wifi. Most hotels and guest houses in asia these days have free wifi. So at night you can do all you web browsing etc. You will find that Google maps will keep the map of the area in its buffer, so during the day you can just use the GPS connection to see where you are. However its best to have a wireless connection via the local mobile phone network so you can have connection on the road.

Good Luck,
