Cycling route advice? Laos/Thailand/Cambodia

Posted by Ashleyandpaul on 5/4/2016 at 01:00

Hello! We are a group of 3 leaving Hanoi shortly with the plan of heading to Siem Reap by bicycle with a time frame of 4-5 weeks. We are pretty set on the first part of our route being Hanoi-Luang Prabang-Vientiane. We are looking for advice to see if it's better to cut through NE Thailand from there to get to Cambodia or if it's better to go the longer route through Laos likely along there Mekong river. Any tips would be so helpful. Thanks in advance!

Hi. Let me know if you have left for your ride yet, or if you are still planning. I will send some info if you aren't on the road already.

Hi Tilapia, I would be interested in hearing more about cycling in Vietnam away from cities.

Hi Saffronny,

So sorry. I posted and then something happened and I'm just now getting back to the post. You're probably done.

Please let me know what route you ended up taking.

For what it's worth, this is the route I took along the Thai side of the Mekong. I have also cycled further south on the Laos side from Pakse down on the east side of the river, but this blog is mostly for the stretch from Nong Khai to Ubon Ratchathani.

Whichever side you chose, hope it was great. I have no doubt it was scorchingly hot.
