My girlfriend and I are planning to do some backpacking around South East Asia from the middle of September this year until around christmas time - so for roughly three months. We will have approx £5000 spend plus flights between us. I am 32 years old and my girlfriend is 26, and so we are not really looking for the party scene as such. What we are looking for is to get immersed in some culture, see some amazing sights, great beaches, food etc. We like the look of the Phillipines and Vietnam. We are now looking to really get planning and have found some great guides to help with this on the internet. I think the thing we are finding most difficult though is judging where to go at that time of year, taking into account the weather.
We would be really greatful for any advice or any suggested itinaries, and also any advice on flights and that kind of thing - anything at all. Thanks.

Okay so to update. We've now booked flights to Kuala Lumpur on the 23rd of September returning December 21st. We are thinking of either slowly going through Thailand, laos and Vietnam and then across to the Phillipines before flying back to Kuala Lumpur. Or going the other way around and perhaps go across to Indonesia then the Phillipines and then back to Kuala Lumper passing through Vietnam, Laos and Thailand. Has anyone got any thoughts on which way might be the way to do it?

You can go either way. KL has flights to many of those destinations so do what ever seems convenient. Many Filipinos come home for Christmas so December is a busy season.
