Just as a bit of Silly Season fun, we've made a new map on the site which we're calling "Mapology".
It lists everywhere where we cover in the region. You click on an icon and you get a pop-up with the place name, a photo and links to the Travelfish page for that destination (and to Agoda and Booking.com if available for that destination).
We mark capitals, national parks and islands with different markers (this isn't 100% comprehensive, but we're working on it) and we're thinking of marking others in the same way - perhaps UNESCO spots for example.
If anyone has any suggestions, we're all ears.
The map works best on a big screen—say laptop or desktop, but it will work on a phone...
hey, i love it... are you going to put a link to it on the main tf page? what about another map with suggested itineraries overlayed on it? while i'm on maps, how about updated town maps with accommodation, restaurants, transport and sites of interest?
enjoy your snowy japanese christmas...

Map with itineraries we're slowly adding in—eventually you'll be able to overlay multiple ones, but we need to rewrite a lot of existing ones first. You can see one with the map here.
Location maps have had accommodation and sights marked for a while - see Yogya for an example. Food is more complicated (because we generally list them all together now rather than individually, so is more complex for individually positioning stuff) so we're treating it a bit different
For transport, you mean stuff like train station, bus station etc? Yeah coming soonish.
An issue for a lot of mapping, is we're working on the assumption that most are using on a phone (more than 50% of our traffic is on phones) so while we need to retain maps for the PDFs and display on the site, we also want to make them actionable, so readers can (for example) click on a link for a hotel and that opens in Google Maps and they can use Gmaps to plan routing from where ever they are to the hotel.
Always a work in progress and always input welcomed!
Japan is great, but O.M.G. it is expensive!
I just reread the above and may be more detail than you were after - simple answer is most of the features you are curious about are on the way!
