Indochina for 6 weeks

Posted by julesie on 28/7/2006 at 21:04

Hello there,

I am planning a trip to Cambodja, Laos and Vietnam for 6 weeks. I am starting off in Ho Chi Minh going up to Hanoi in 3 weeks with my boyfriend. Then I will continue alone for the other 3 weeks. How can I best connect Laos and Camobja to this trip? Or is it more advisable to only add one of the two? Which one would you recommend?

Thanks for the advice!

Hi julesie,

Welcome to Travelfish!

Have you taken a look at the Trip Planner section?

While we haven't got a trip plan specific to what you're doing, after Hanoi you coule backtrack to Hue and cross at the Lao Bao crossing then work your way through southern Laos and into Cambodia.

With three weeks you could see a fair amount of Southern Laos and Cambodia, but if you planned to see northern Laos then I don't think you'd have time to get to Cambodia as well unless you did some flying around. - Eg fly from Hanoi to Vientiane to save having to backtrack for the overland crossing.

Hey Somtam,

Thanks a lot for your answer ... still hesitating a bit to take in Hanoi a flight to Pnom Penh/Siem Reap and travel 3 weeks around in Cambodja or trying to combine Laos for a week and Cambodja for two weeks. Actually the Northern part of Laos seems to be most tempting at first but as you say then I'll need to fly a bit more. Do you have any idea how long it would take me over road to go from Hanoi to the Northen part of Laos and from Pnom Penh to Ho Chi Minh? Then I could for instance travel a week in Northern Laos, take a flight to Siem Reap and make my way via Pnom Penh to Ho Chi Minh ...
