Climbing Gunung Agung on Bali

Posted by somtam2000 on 12/5/2013 at 21:14 admin

Heya,

I'm making my second attempt at climbing Bali's highest peak, Gunung Agung this Saturday coming. If anyone happens to be in Bali and would be interested in joining, let me know.

It's a physically demanding climb, you can read a synopsis here:

I've organized a guide & will be leaving from Sidemen for the Pura Agung route.

Cheers!

Well I did it. Easily the most physically punishing thing I've ever done. Would I do it again? No way!

Here are a few more pics from the peak of Gunung Agung -- will be writing a lot more regarding it in the coming days.

Cheers!

Well done. I loved the pix, particularly the sunrise shot showing distant Rinjani on Lombok - and the night shot of the southern Bali lights. Was that last one done with a bit of telephoto?

Thanks Tezza,

No last pic was taken without telephoto. It's of Nyoman (my guide) he was standing just in front of me -- he's not standing on a cliff - that's actually the way down!

Cheers

Um, me bad......instead of "last one" I should have typed "latter" - meaning the night shot of south Bali. Kuta sure looks close. Of course, Bali is compact - just takes a fair while to get most places.

That's a pretty quick ascent, by my standards anyway, so you must be fitter than you think! I've done a fair few Munros and it takes me 4-5 hours to do 1000m, and you did 1400ish in 4 hours. I love climbs from sea level though. You can't beat the sea-meets-mountain views. Well done!

@Tezza nah they're not zoomed in. What looked really close was Lombok. Couldn't quite see the Gilis (without risking life & limb) but Senggigi was obvious and looked like you could just hop over top it. Could also see almost to Kuta-lombok which was pretty amazing.

@CaptainScott Thanks!
