Free tourist visa

Posted by Lilly2188 on 11/4/2016 at 00:56

Hi all,
Will be entering bali and getting the free 30 day visa.
I read somewhere that if you get the free 30 day visa you need to exit from the same airport, is this true?
Also, we will be doing a visa run via Kuala Lumpur and entering again into Makassar Sulawesi. I read that a free visa is not available in Makassar and only a 35usd VOA is, is this the case?!

That's not all true, although like everything relating to Indonesian visas, there is some uncertainty.

For the free visa on arrival, you need to exit by one of the approved routes (so only certain seaports or airports are approved). There are some routes that are definitely approved to leave by, and some where there is still a little confusion / uncertainly about if they are approved or not (meaning it's been reported that you can exit by that route, but until someone actually does it and reports success, it should be taken with a grain of salt). But you don't need to exit from the one you entered by. So you could fly into Bali, and leave from Jakarta, for example.

But you are correct in your second point, that Makassar is not an approved entry point for free visa on arrival, so you will need to pay for a visa to enter by that route.

Full details are on this site here:

Free Visa only available at International Airport, like Bali and Jakarta airport, also if you fly out you have to through international airport.

Check this link for the latest on free visa stuff. It's pretty complicated, but you can exit through almost any airport on free visa these days. Originally this wasn't the case.

Of course, Indo embassy websites aren't always correct... But what else can you trust? :)

based on how i understand the system working of the free visa to enter Indonesia. The Free Visa on Arrival, there has a list of the country that owned free visa on arrival to enter Indonesia based on the bilateral cooperation. This not all airport allowed to issued the free visa, only the international airport has right and authority to issued. If you leave the country and then it's doesn't matter which airport, as long as there has flight schedule.
