Notes from 3 nights in Pemuteran October 2016

Just back from three nights in Pemuteran.

Stayed at Sunia Loka which was a bit tired around the edges. Bad drains smell in the bathroom, "feminine hygiene product" not cleared away from the previous resident, gardens getting so bushy it was difficult to walk around without getting a face full of leaves. However, views to die for, lovely staff (except for being bullied by someone on breakfast duty because both of us in our party didn't come to breakfast at the same time), fantastic pool. One the whole, OK for the price, and a bit of management focus would fix the weaknesses in no time. Made sense to me when one of the staff said that the owner was away for two months - it is on tickover. Would go back.

Things to do:
Had a snorkelling session at Menjangan Island. Not sure if we got it on a bad day, but I was underwhelmed. Very bad garbage at the first site. Poor coral in both locations. Maybe the prob was that we joined a group of divers, so those sites may be good for diving but not snorkelling. Note to self to go for dedicated snorkelling trip next time.

Headed off to the Hatten vineyard at 1400 on a Saturday. Shut.
Just for the lolz we went to the Bali Tower at The Menjangan resort. Nice place to splurge on coffee and cake up above the tree canopy with views over the islands and mountains over in East Java. Recommended.

Fantastic pizza to be had at the La Casa Kita, but had a bit of a to-do about the bill, which had had some extra drinks added to it. They either took us for fools, which isn't great, or it was a mistake, which isn't much better. They didn't seem to care. But the pizza is so good, we went back.

Lunch at the Santai Warung was a real joy. Simple, friendly, relaxed.

Also ate at the Frangipani and Prapat Sari. Ho-hum.

Best thing we ate on the whole trip was chicken betutu in a restaurant called Men Tempeh in the bus station at Gilimanuk on the way back to Banyuwangi to pick up the plane. If you are passing through Gilimanuk you must drop in, or even make a special trip.
