Traditional Bungalows & Hammock in Lombok/Gilis?

Posted by smoothy on 27/10/2016 at 22:49

Visited the Gilis in 1998 and 2007, and stayed in traditional style wooden/bamboo bungalows where hammocks can be attached to the balcony. Was planning to visit Meno in December but it seems many of the bungalow operations have ‘upgraded’ and the old style bungalows might not exist anymore? Hopefully, I am wrong. Any recommendations (on any of the Gillis or mainland Lombok) gratefully received.

Um, it's been several years - but SUNRISE on Gili Air had traditional Lumbug (rice barn) style of accomm at closer to budget than other prices. Not exactly bamboo type accomm, but certainly old style. And woody.

Also it's a nice area - that east coast of Air has great views of mainland Lombok/Rinjani from the bunch of bales (sitting platforms) on the sea shore. Plenty of eats joints adjacent and a nice stretch of beach with a drop off reef just offshore where you can let the current drift you along while you check the coral and fishies - swim short distance back ashore and repeat as required.

Anyway check travelfish's and other booking sites for the current pricing and other situation at SUNRISE.
