Never slap an immigration officer

Posted by somtam2000 on 2/8/2018 at 15:18 admin

This story has been doing the rounds. The British woman had apparently overstayed her Indonesian tourist visa by 160 days and got his with a fine of over £3,000 (@25/day) and well, suffice to say she was not impressed (colourful language in the video).

Our advice (unsurprisingly) is to never, ever hit an immigration officer (or anyone actually!) and make the effort to be aware of the rules behind your visa—overstays are not a joke, especially ones of 160 days.

She is apparently in detention here in Bali now.

Wow, what a sense of entitlement that woman has! Her reaction to getting caught with a 160 day overstay is wierd. The correct attitude in this kind of situation is to be very remorseful and apologetic, not outraged and aggressive. What on earth did she expect to achieve with that rant? Nobody in their right mind behaves like that with govt officials. God knows what her behaviour is like at home... I bet her family are rather relieved she's in prison in Bali!

There's still something odd about this story though. Surely she knew her excessive overstay was going to get flagged when she was going though the immigration checks? Just out of interest I checked what the penalties are for a 160 day overstay are...

Did you know that there is NO fine for overstays of over 60 days in Indonesia? The penalty is just deportation and blacklisting according to this site.

Maybe the lady was very cross with the immigation officers because she'd read that she'd be able to leave Indonesia without having to pay anything. If she'd kept her cool the court case ruling would have been quite interesting but now she doesn't have a leg to stand on because she has some kind of weird personality disorder and thinks she can yell and swear at complete strangers and hit them around the head if they don't do what she wants. Like Somtam says, you should never, ever hit an immigration officer (or anyone else).... :)
