We are heading to Sumatra. We've been in Indonesia before, so we plan to spend our whole 30 visa on arrival time (or close) there.
We arrive in Medan from Penang. We know we would like to visit north and central Sumatra primarily.
We are looking at Ketambe, Bukit Lawang (is it overkill to do both? Are they too similar or are they both worth visiting considering we have a whole month there?), Berastagui, Lake Toba. Then we are looking at some south coast beach island, which could be around the Banyak islands (suggestions there specifically or in the area?). Moving on, we read interesting things about the Bukittinggi area, and maybe Kerincy Valley if we have enough time.
We don't like to rush it. We know we have one month and if we need to return some other time to visit what's left, we'll do it.
Any other suggestions of must see places in your opinion?
We are also struggling on how to travel the Medan/Ketambe/Bukit Lawang/Berastagui part. How would you suggest to order those destinations based on public transport?
Thank you so much for your help!!!

Bukit Lawang is lowland forest and Ketembe is mountain forest and Bukit Lawang is more commercialized so they are not the same. Pulau Banyak islands can be time consuming to visit and don't have normally operating bungalows and restaurants like they used to long ago. Visiting both north and west Sumatra for one month may be restrictive. If you pay for visa on arrival you can extend it for another month although it can take days to do that.
