Visa on arrival issues?

Posted by kbabin on 9/4/2013 at 07:02

Have just read the recent newsletter from Travelfish regarding not being able to obtain a visa on arrival in Laos:

"...though you'll hear about tourist visas on arrival being available, as far as we can ascertain, they are not. Let that be a warning!"

My boyfriend and I will be travelling to Laos from Chiang Mai (across the Mekong from Chiang Khong) around the 18th of April.

Will we have any issues?? It's just after Songkran..

If there is any information anyone could give to us that would be awesome!

Thanks!

That was said about visa-on-arrival for Burma, not Laos. (I see how you could mix it up as the previous sentence mentions updating "the rest of Laos in the coming week" and then goes straight into how they're unable to get a visa for Burma this week).

So... you're golden. :) Visa on arrival for Laos available at all border crossings as usual.

Lao Visa on Arrival is super simple - it would be nice if Vietnam were so easy!

Sorry, yeah, we could have been a bit clearer in that bit of the newsletter - a few people now have emailed asking what the hell we were talking about.

Sorry for the confusion.

Hi kbabin just a little heads-up. Every year many many travellers settle into Chiang Mai for Songkran, and then afterwards there's a mad dash for Laos. So maybe try to pre-arrange a minivan to Chiang Khong as soon as you get to Chiang Mai. If you wait until last minute they may be full for days. Also note the transport company (Aya Tour) halt their minvan service during April 12-16 for the festival. Of course there are also buses from Arcade staion on the edge of town. Happy New (Thai) Year!
