Sending letters by post from Luang Prabang

What is the situation on sending letters to or from Luang Prabang? How do you use the postal service and how long does it take. How reliable is it. Thanks a lot

From my limited use (postcards sent to the States) it works just fine - look at the map of LP on hobomaps - the main P.O. is across from the Phousi Hotel in Ban Houa Xieng (central map).

Same as above - postcards to Germany without any problems.

Lao Post is hit and miss - sometimes ok, sometimes unreliable and slow. I wouldn't be too concerned if it's just a postcard or letter but classic example: I once received a Christmas card one year late, but at least Lao Post had the idea to cross out the original date stamp with marker!
