Has anyone stayed at Nam Ou Riverside resort near Luang Prabang in January? How cold was it? We hope to arrive by boat but go to airport by road when we leave. Is it accessible by road? I have heard some reports that the road is very bad. Thanks

You can pretty much count on Luang Prabang being cold in January. Day time temperatures can be pleasant but nighttime is usually just above freezing and Nam Ou Riverside and 99% of the accommodation in Luang Prabang don’t have indoor heating. Be prepared.
Last I saw, road from Nam Ou Riverside to Route 13 (main road) was still unpaved. Route 13 all the way to the airport is sealed.
Hope this helps, cheers

In Luang Prabang end of January/early Feb 2018
Sunny and warm during the day needed jacket in evening but by no means freezing cold
Hotel was perfectly warm in evening with bedroom windows and shutters closed
Woke up to crisp clear mornings ideal for cycling
Enjoy your trip to LP
Hope this is of use to you

Hi, we were there in early January three years ago and it was very very cold and wet. We ended up running the shower to get heat from the steam into the room.
