Hi everyone! Wanting to travel from railey bay, krabi in Thailand down to the malaysia border and onto the perhentian islands, malaysia but trying to find the best route and advise on land travel. Looking for some info on where we can take train or busses from and to, as well as which border crossing to use! I already know we must make it to kuala besut to take a ferry over.

1.what is wrong with travelguidebooks? They have it in them!
2.you have big anxiety or how strong is your mind agianst all those stories about rebellions and terrorists in southern Thailand?
in short-note that it will take at least around 24 hrs and that Perhentians (means ''watch out!!'') are as good as closed in (Europ.) wintertime, plus that I never quite get why people want to exchange beach A to B_its all just sand in their toes and looks the same.
Go to Krabi- get bus to HaadYai, find bus/whatever to Butterworth, MY (or train if you belong to that mindset), there either daytime or overnite bus to KB=KOta Bahru, jump off point for K.Besut. In this case that maligned travelbook is quite useful, as KB has 3 busstations/stesyen bas and can be very confusing. If your anxiety is that big you cannot live with the idea of just wait for a bus, then book minibus at placeyoustay to HYai-and sit with a load of stinky farang all in the same ignorant position.
If fear is manageable and you blong to the trainloving minority:
bus/whatever to Surat Thanee, catch one of the 2 overnite trains BKk-SUNGAI KOLOK (=right through bomb-setting areas of South Thailand, just watch how stations are fortified over there), walk/tuktuk to border, cross over, find the SKMK Cityliner red bus to KB-and as above-same busstesyen in centre KB. AS MY is 1 hr later as TH and boats do not go much after 14/15 hrs-you may be better off to overnite in KB.
