KL for 4 days?

Posted by hemmingway on 10/11/2015 at 08:50

Hey guys,

What was meant to be a 2 hr layover now turned into a 4 day holiday in the Malaysian capital (Don't ask lol). Been to KL before and did all the major touristy things so now I'm looking for suggestions more about the cultural, artistic, gastronomical aspect of this city. I'm thinking good food places (cafes, street-food etc), quirky markets, eclectic bars, funky music venues, alternative galleries, places where locals actually go and maybe throw in some outdoorsy things to do such as hiking trails into the mix. I do remember I hated KL last time I visited because it was so damn hot and humid and I was just dazed by the chaos that ensued in the city streets although I'm a bit more open-minded this time around. Hit me up with your ideas!

You may try
1.) petaling street - lot of street food (it's somehow a quirky market)
2.) Bintang Street - a place where full with bars/club
3.) Putrajaya - an artistic/ cultural city where all the government building took place
4.) Sunway Pyramid/ Sunway Lagoon - Mall where can having ice skating/ bowling
5.) Broga Hill - Hiking/ trekking

Hope you enjoy ur trip at KL :)

Four days is a fair chunk of time. Have you looked into getting out of the city, like a trip to the Cameron Highlands?

By the way, how do you get to Broga Hill from KL by public transport?

I don't know anyone who rates KL highly. At least Singapore has a race track and a world class zoo.

But you could get a cheap flight to Krabi for some beach time.

At least in KL I felt like I was in SEA, whereas Singapore was very westernised.

Granted KL isn't hugely interesting, but it has some good food, an interesting Little India and the Batu Caves.

Zoos can be interesting but wouldn't feature on my list of what makes a place good.

Surat Thani feels like SEA but it's a dump. KL is marginally better.

Air Asia has so many cheap flights Id look at the options elsewhere. Anywhere but KL.

By any reasonable criteria, KL is not a dump.

Going back to the OP's original question, if you have been to KL before then fly up to Penang for a few days - great spot.

KL isn't my first choice for spending a few days, but it is still interesting and is far from being a dump.
Travelfish recently ran a headline story on spending an extra day in Krabi, to have a look at the food and other things in the city. I thought it was a particularly good article, and the concept would apply pretty much anywhere, including KL. Smile had several interesting suggestions about how to make the most of time in KL, and I think digging a bit deeper into food would be another fun way to spend the time. I know Antonia thinks Malaysian food is the best in the region, and this would be a great time to have a closer look at the cuisine.
Please let us know what you decide to do, and how it worked out. Cheers.
