Langkawi to koh lipe

Posted by kelliepnz on 3/3/2019 at 09:25

Hi, we are planning trip to langkawi in July. This island seems very close to koh lipe? Can anyone give me some info on getting between the two islands & do you need to go though immigration?

of course you need to go through immigration to go from one country to another

there is a daily ferry at least in July

This was the case last I checked:

From November 1 to April 31, speedboats and ferries depart Langkawi 's Kuah Jetty for Ko Lipe at 08:30, 13:30 and 14:30, cost around 1,000 baht and take at least 90 minutes. Thai immigration will stamp you into the kingdom upon arrival at Pattaya Beach. Boats run to Langkawi from Lipe at 09:30, 10:30 and 15:30. Boats do not run between Lipe and Langkawi in low season, when you’d have to take a ferry to Satun and from there make your way to Pakbara to catch a boat to Lipe.

The immigration office is a tiny booth right on the beach, so it's a fun way to enter Thailand.

Close on the map does not necessarily mean close, especially when choppy waters and immigration is involved. My expectations for Langkawi were relatively low, but I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. White sand beach, friendly people, nice weather, no crowds in early April (not sure about July, that may be high season). You may just opt to stay there and relax, or visit the mangroves.
