National Park Fee Increase!

Posted by Drew84 on 1/4/2013 at 21:15

So I'm seeing on some websites that many popular thai national parks have increased their entrance fees for foreigners to 500 Baht as of January 1, 2013. Is this a rumor or misinformation or is it infact the new fee? Seems to be a lot of conflicting information regarding this. The ones that most concern me are Ang Thong, Koh Sok and Koh Tartau...

I was budgeting 200 baht, but at 500 baht each park I may have to consider other places. Seems pretty steep if you ask me.

Amazing what 5 secs on google can find. Not sure why people can't do that.

Yeah, cause the thai DNP site is known to be the most up to date website on the internet.

Anyone been to any of these parks since Jan 1?

The page linked to by Leonard appears to have last been updated in 2010, so I wouldn't necessarily go on that.

However, this page says that Sai Yok is among the parks to see an increase in October 2012, but I was there last month and it was still 200. Fees for the other parks I've been to (five or so) since October '12 have also not been raised. I have not been to any of the parks you mention recently, but I'd be surprised if they've been raised. With that said, I wouldn't be surprised if some of them -- Khao Sok in particular -- sees an increase in the not-so-distant future.

I wouldn't be opposed to national park entry fee rises if they were really using the money to protect the park and support the rangers.
