Has anyone used the self guided bike tour service from Click and Travel bike tours from Chiang Mai?

No. Just buy a map and work it out yourself what interests you.

With the maniacs you find on Thai roads, many of whom are blind drunk, cycling isn't recommended.

A round-the-world cycling couple were run over and killed recently doing just that:

You mean something like this?
No, haven't used them because I live here and have my own bike. They seem a bit expensive at 1250b+ per day and too many "rules" (you're not even allowed to bring a GPS with you so you can't "steal" their routes). It's not too difficult to make your own bike tour. Find a decent bike, ride it around for a day to make sure it's ok, buy a couple maps at local book shops, and get out of town. There are nice rides following the Ping river both north and south of town, good riding up around Mae Rim and Mae Taeng and loads of easy flat and scenic riding down toward Lumphun. Just stay off the highway.

Yes that's the one captain and thanks for your reply. Without actually driving the roads first it would be difficult to tell from a map alone just how busy they were in terms of safety for bike travel. That would be the only advantage IMO of using their service.
