We're arriving in Thailand on Wednesday and after 5 days of Bangkok we originally planned to go south and visit some islands.
Afterwards we would be doing Cambodia, Laos and then northern Thailand.
Now I've been checking weather forecasts and it seems still to be quite rainy in the south. So we're thinking to throw the tour around and first go north, then Laos, Cambodia and only then southern Thailand.
I'm talking about a timespan of approx 3 weeks in each part.
What would be your advice, first north or first south, based on the current weather?

Check the Thai weather web page. It is the rainy season here. (Gra Do Fon) So its going to rain in the north, south, east, and very likely west. If you seek less rain arrive during (Gra Do Now) the cold season. It does not matter which direction you go it,s going to rain at some time or another. Thais deal with it every day.

It generally dries out in the north first this time of year. We just had a few rainy days in Chiang Mai but it's starting to clear up and November is usually nice. Down south it can stay rainy into November then December usually gets sunny especially the west coast. Keep an eye on the satellite images. http://www.goes.noaa.gov/sohemi/sohemiloops/vsmtsatw.html
I'd be inclined to head north first. November tends to be great in Laos, and that means you'll be in Cambodia for late November, which means the islands should be great and then press on to the south of Thailand for the island scene.

In southern Thailand you'll see good weather on both the east and west coast - which islands are you planning on hitting?
Thanks for the advice all, we're going to take it so we're going north first. Bus to Laos. Then Cambodia and thailands southern islands afterwards.
I'll check the link for the Cambodia islands later, now really busy making sure we can leave on Wednesday
Current islands we're thinking of: Ko Samui, Ko Tao, Ko Samet, Ko phi phi
But feel free to make suggestions, we're only leaving for Myanmar beginning of February, so there's some room to make changes to the schedule.
