Is there such thing as a mini-bus from Bangkok to Aranyaprathet? We will then take a taxi from Poipet to Siem Reap
And where would I catch it from? Any ideas on how much it would cost as well per person? Are they much quicker than busses (we don't want to be stuck on a bus for 5 hours while they pickup/drop off people).
We plan to travel on 25th December 2013 (people have said this should be fine in Thailand)

of course there is-reading a guidebook would also have explained it all.
In fact the VANs replace what used to be the 2nd cl. bus. There are still 1st cl=all AC buses from MOchit-these hardly stop.'''for pick up'' ANY other town along the route will have its own dedicated bus/van-so there is no intermediate traffic.
About ANY place in central TH now has a direct van to BKK-90% of those, incl. to Aran, leave from somewhere around the Vict. MOnument.
Cost a few bt less as bus=less as 200 bt/pp. Train is 48 bt and takes 6 hrs+delay-free for Thai and only 3d cl. hard seats.
A guidebook would also have learnt you that all publ. transp in TH is for westerners extremely cheap. If you would really need to worry about it, stay home. It would also have explained that 25/12 is just a normal working day here.
