Does anyone know what's up with the political protests in Bangkok this week? I read two stories in the NYT but can't find anything more traveler-oriented here. Where are the protests being held and how might they affect tourists? Thanks!
hmm, depends on where. I returned to BKK yesterday ex SIN. Stay close to the main protest site, which also was the protest site for the then reds in 2010. Traffic is an annoying thing to take account of. Also a lot of the Dusit area os cordoned off by riot police-thus adding to more traffic woes.
But as most people, who want to be oso distinguishing tom not stay around KSR, youll not note much of it. Meanwhile the KSR bisnis assocoiation is complaining that the tourists stay away and rooms are not filled in the near coming high season. They forget they themselves opened at least 10 new places to compete with the old standing ones.

I'm with Leonard here - it's all reputation and linked to some weird idea that when people come to SEA they want to become hippies (Newsflash: The hippy movement is dead), dress in ridiculous clothes, get spider web face tattoos, get high, and put their hair into dreadlocks. Freak show central.
Anymore updates on the protests in Bangkok? I am arriving on the 9th staying off Dinso Road for 3 nights - wondering if I should change accommodation or skip Bangkok?
