Hey I am first time solo traveller from Ireland coming to South East Asia for his inaugural visit. I am starting work for an NGO in Hanoi July 7th and have decided to come to Bangkok 2 weeks beforehand.
First of all I would really appreciate it if I could get some advice on accommodation. I am looking to stay around the Khao San road district, not necessarily on the road but within a walking distance of it anyway. I am looking for a private room that is under 600 baht, preferably in a Hostel as I prefer the atmosphere there, but a guest house would be fin as well. I have to re iterate that I'm looking for a place with good atmosphere, not necessarily a "party" one but somewhere where it is easy to meet other solo travelers.
Finally I was wondering if there was group meet-up planned for around that time? I would appreciate a few seasoned travellers showing me the ropes and possibly even get acquainted with a future travel companion, someone to go to Siem Reap for Angkor Wat with for example.
I'm hitting Bangkok on the 24th as well. It's my first time to Thailand.
I'm from London myself. I've been to a couple of others places travelling, but I think S.E Asia is a completely different kettle of fish.
If you fancy it, we can catch for a drink and check a few places out around Bangkok, to help find our feet! I'm planning on heading down south, to Singapore, before flying up to Cambodia.
It's always decent to know you have an acquaintance before you land. Plus, if we coincidently land around the same time, we can share a cab into Khao San!

I also hit Bangkok on the 24th maybe the 25th. Im travelling solo so would be good to have people to meet when i get there, grab a drink etc.
I haven't made any plans after Bangkok but have 6 weeks and would like to check out the islands in the south, would like to end up in Cambodia at some point.
If anyone is travelling solo and looking to meet up drop me a message
I arrive in Bangkok on Saturday, June 28, for 2 nights, then off to Chiang Mai June 30, and down to Koh Samui and the surrounding islands shortly thereafter.
I'm staying at Lub'D in Siam Square, it has amazing reviews: http://siamsquare.lubd.com/
Will also be by myself, let me know if anyone will still be around.

Be sure to check out couchsurfing if you're looking for a meetup. They have weekly ones around Bangkok where you're sure to meet some people that might be doing your same route.
