Nong Khai to Chiang Khan bus

Posted by 12388a on 28/2/2017 at 19:41

Took the bus from Nong Khai to Chiang Khan today. This journey is done in 3 parts. First caught an old but clean green bus at 7:30am from Nong Khai bus station to another bus station which I arrived at around 11:35 am along a scenic Mekong river. Then caught a large songthaw (large public taxi style car) to Ban Trad around 1.5 hours away which left around 11:50am. These 2 parts of the journey cost 120 baht for both. From Ban Trad cross to the other side of the road from where you were dropped and wait at the small police station post for another songthaw ( public taxi) which pass about every 30 minutes. to Chiang Khan for 20 baht. You'll need to hail it down. It's about another 30 minutes to Chiang Khan where you can take a tuk tuk to Chiang Khan city centre to your hotel guest house for 30 baht.
Rim Riverside guest house has lovely big clean rooms in Nong Khai overlooking the Mekong river, the owner speaks quite good English and is helpful.

I've taken that same 07:30 bus a couple times from Nong Khai to Pak Chom (your "another bus station") and from there just after arrival around noon took a big songtaew bus down to Loei. Yeah, love that slow crawler green bus as it goes along the Mekong with the windows and doors usually open. Refreshing.
