Long Boat trip from Chaing Mai

Any suggestions for a long boat trip from Chaing Mai ? We would just like to experience it and have no idea how long you should do it for or to where ?

The longest boat trip "out of" C. Mai is a one hour river cruise all within the city. The Ping River isn't navigable due to many small dams. The next closest long boat trip might be on the Nam Kok river from Fang (3 hours north of C. Mai by bus) to Chiang Rai.

There are no boat trips in/from Chiang Mai , except for a short dinner cruise up and down the Ping between the dams (sluices). As mentioned above there are day boats between Chiang Rai and Thaton in northern Chiang Mai province. When you hear talk of "long" or "slow" boats in Chiang Mai, it is usually a reference to boats on the Mekong from Huay Xai at the Thai/Laos border down to Luang Prabang. It's a two-day trip with numerous boats holding up to 100 passengers. Standard boats cost around $25 and private companies upwards of $150++.
