Really not a question, but information for other travellers, We traveled to Timor Leste for a week and wow it was great, a little more expensive than Indonesia but well worth the diversion while we were in Bali. Following LP Guide we headed to the East Timor Backpackers only to find it had closed down, finding budget accommodation was proving to be challenge as there was not much advertised on line! A taxi ended up taking us to another backpackers hidden behind a dodgy small shop "$15 each no problem" said Pakastani owner! Ok we had a look but as 2 women travelling here for the first time we really felt uncomfortable with the fact that the bathrooms only had a plastic sheet instead of a door that faced onto the common room! Okay back to the taxi not a great start, what to do next without breaking the budget. The taxi driver said he knew another place "but only hotel but cheap" ok and off we go to an old hotel called Gino's right on the main road in the city, and to our surprise they had a complete wing dedicated to Backpackers, Yes a little more expenisve $20 in a 4 bed dorm, with airconditioning, really clean with all the linen, 3 really good bathrooms and a great outdoor garden bar to hang out in. We stayed here for the rest of our stay and the staff were so helpful, and a really good breakfast was included. This is an unknown gem, right in city, we really enjoyed Timor Leste, so untouched by tourism, the locals were so friendly and we had so many great experiences travelling around on a motorbike we hired, we are definitely planning to return, there was so much more we wanted to see.
