From Tam Coc to Sapa

Posted by AlexBCN on 9/4/2010 at 23:30

I was planning my trip in North Vietnam, and was wondering if there is any way to go from Tam Coc to Sapa without having to head back to Hanoi.

Is the overnight train to Sapa stopping anywhere or is it direct?

Many thanks for the help travellers!

Sorry, the answer is no, everything goes through Hanoi . Even if you were to hire a private driver, they'd most likely have to go via Hanoi. The Lao Cai train does make a few brief intermediate stops, yes. If you're coming in from Ninh Binh on the train, I believe you have to switch from station A to station B at Hanoi since all trains bound for Lao Cai/Sapa leave from the rear, station B.

Agree. There's no direct way to Sapa from Tam Coc. Instead, you need return to Hanoi and board the train from there.
