How To Order a Rail Ticket In SaiGon From Overseas

Posted from within Vietnam.

A number of Travelfish members have been unsuccessful in contacting 5-Star aka Golden Train.

This operation might be rich enough to finance a complete train set but it is a neophyte when it comes to running a business!

The owner proudly told me they didn't use the web site anymore "as they had changed their name".

It has an office on Pham Ngu Lao, the HCMC backpacker area, but it doesn't sell tickets. For this you have to go to:

SaiGon Railway Station
1 Nguyen Thong
District / Quan 3
SaiGon / Ho Chi Minh City

GPS: N10 46.965 E106 40.629

The golden Train ticket office is on the left as you approach the rail station terminal - inside the rail terminal compound.

Golden Train ONLY takes reservations by telephone or in person. Settlement has to be in cash - they can't handle credit cards! The tickets are hand-written - no automation here. The master train manifest is run on paper and is updated by pencil!

However, there is an answer to prospective train riders quest for tickets from overseas.

INSIDE the rail terminal, again on the left of the booking room area, there is an office of Green Leaf Tours, a member of Vietravel Group, with a licence & bond issued by VietNam National Administration of Tourism. In other words, they are legit. They also have another office at the TSN airport.
