All Nepal traffic blocked

Posted by somtam2000 on 4/6/2012 at 09:12

As regular readers may have noticed, there are a few cretins in Nepal that seem intent on letting Travelfish readers know about their Nepal tour offerings over and over and over and over again. As a response, as with China, we've blocked all traffic from Nepal. Apologies for any inconvenience. ...

Updates?

Posted by shutupbecky on 24/5/2012 at 09:16

When I first visited Travelfish, I was pretty excited. It was like discovering a treasure trove of information. However, that initial excitement is gone because I've noticed that much of the information is very old. That's not to say that the information isn't useful -it's better than nothing- but it makes me question how reliable the information is. What's happening (or not happening) to this website? ...

Busy times?

Posted by tezza on 15/5/2012 at 01:44

I returned from a March/April trip to Thailand and wrote at least half a dozen LOCATION and ACCOMMODATION reports/reviews. To date only one has been published. Having just returned again from different Thailand places I'm wondering whether it is worthwhile spending the time on more reports/reviews? ...

Posted by jammac on 7/5/2012 at 13:39

Hi all, this has probably been talked about before, either that or I'm blind, and I did search for this before posting. So no for sale section? I have a load of stuff from my travels that someone else could benefit from now I'm done with mine Thanks, James ...

A note on manners

Posted by somtam2000 on 11/3/2012 at 07:13

Hey all, I've been distracted to say the least with some non-Travelfish stuff going on for the last month or so, and as a result some threads have got a bit, well impolite. I have mentioned this in the past, but I'll just mention it again for those who missed my earlier notes on this matter: a) If you feel a question is stupid, or the person asking hasn't searched for an answer that is already here somewhere, please ignore the question. You're under no obligation to answer anything on TF. b) ...

The Site Generally

Posted by lifemagic on 7/2/2012 at 07:54

Not sure if this is the right thread to talk about the site generally. I'm grateful for it, the info, pics, occasional maps, user reviews, and it's all free of course. I travel around a lot and like to take part, so leave reviews.I'm careful to let you know of good experiences as well as bad, and when negative, I stick to the facts. But my reviews, recently, don't show up. I'm just back from Surat Thani. I went and looked at most of the places there. The guide (on this site) is really outdated ...

Any additional insight on Thai-Cambodian border crossings?

Posted by damil1234 on 2/12/2011 at 23:39

Hello, My boyfriend and I would like to cross over into Cambodia from Thailand's Surin province. I've listed our loose itinerary along w/ plenty of questions below - can anyone lend their insight? Starting on/about Dec 10: From Chiang Mai , take train to Ayutthaya (if it's not flooded); if it's flooded, take train from Chiang Mai to Bangkok. From Ayutthaya (or Bangkok), head east to Surin province (bus? train?) to cross down to the Cambodian border. - Bus or train from Ayutthaya or Ba ...

Travelfish guides for Kindle and other ebook readers

Posted by kibatonic on 31/12/2010 at 01:13

Hi Travelfish people, first of all, thank you for this great website!! I'm planning to travel to South East Asia for 6 weeks from beginning of March on and instead as I did the few times before when I had a chance go on holiday, I'm not going to carry 2kg+ in printed books with me, but instead will use my 6" Kindle 3. And now I found your Free Guides feature... OMG, what a great idea! That's the perfect addition to my Kindle, just create books for all the destinations I'm planning to see, ...

Instant post deletion?

Posted by nagawhomp on 25/11/2011 at 19:45

Heya, made a pretty average post in buy/sell motorbikes yesterday and it was apparently deleted as spam. Not sure what I did to cause that, could someone enlighten me? Thanks! ...

New server: problems here please

Posted by somtam2000 on 3/11/2011 at 07:54

Hiya, Many apologies for the downtime today - things well, didn't go quite as planned. If you come across any problems in the coming days - doesn't matter how minor, please post here and I'll look into it. With this new server we should dodge the frequent down times we have been experiencing and it should generally be a good deal faster. Wait and see ...

Server issues

Posted by somtam2000 on 28/10/2011 at 23:45

As you may have noticed the Travelfish site has been a bit erratic over the last few days -- especially between about 5pm and 9pm GMT +8. We have no idea why this has been happening, but, as at wit's end have just ordered a new shiny server with a fresh stock of hamsters which we'll hopefully be able to migrate across to over the weekend. I realise this may be a bit inconvenient given everything that is happening in Bangkok, but we're worried the whole thing is just going to role over and die, ...

If anyone happens to be about would be a great opportunity to meetup... If you can't make the tweetup, we're in Sg all week, so drop me a line if you're about. Cheers! ...

Email notifications of replies on threads

Posted by KirstyB on 10/9/2011 at 05:42

I've just realised that I haven't been receiving email notifications of replies on threads for the past 2 or 3 days ......... Has anyone else had this problem? I double checked my email address (altho it was working previously and I haven't changed it) and other emails are receiving fine. And, yes I do remember to check the box! ...

Travelfish newsletter

Posted by somtam2000 on 6/10/2007 at 16:12

You may have noticed the sign-up blurb on the top right of most pages for the Travelfish newsletter. Yes, that's right, we're bringing our newsletter -- the fondly named Burp! -- back to life. Travelfish old-hands probably recall the old newsletter, and the new Burp! will be a similar product. Travel news, gossip, special deals and lots more. What this means is if you're signed up via the Member Centre to receive the newsletter, you need to re-sign-up via the box up top. Sorry for the inco ...

Region itineraries

Posted by Clarkfamily on 2/9/2011 at 19:40

Any suggestions for an extended regional itinerary (6 months) including Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos? We are an adventurous family of five planning a trip without time limits at each destination, but would like to leave with a directional itinerary in mind. We hope to do mostly overland travel once in the region, but will probably fly a few long legs. Also open to boat travel. Any suggestions would be great so we avoid backtracking. Mother planner ...

Link to Blogs?

Posted by swampgum on 24/8/2011 at 17:24

Hi there Somtam & crew, Love the site, of course – you've been invaluable... and a little bit addictive... After a few months of hanging around here, I just have one question/comment about getting to the blog section: To me, the blog section is one of the best parts of the site - and it's the area I visit most regularly. I think it's also one of the things that sets you apart from the similar sites, so I'm surprised that there isn't a direct link to the top-level blog page (www.travelfis ...

Travelfish in French

Posted by somtam2000 on 31/8/2011 at 22:57

Heya, Just a quick note to let you all know we've opened the first part of something new we're doing -- Travelfish.org in other languages. For now it is just a partial translation in French -- of the top level information for Thailand -- but we'll expand it over time. Just thought it would be useful for native French speakers to read all this stuff in their own language -- and it has been lovingly translated to a a French speaker who has lived in Thailand a long, long time! You can see the s ...

Strewth

Posted by tezza on 16/8/2011 at 17:42

Stone the crows Stewy! I just spent the best part of an hour typing in a report on Kapas Island, but the Travelfish automatic log-out meant that when I tried to post it, I lost it all. How 'bout you extend the auto-log out so that long winded slow typing bastards like me get enough time to do the job? Or develop an auto-save function. ...

Jobs at Travelfish.org

Posted by somtam2000 on 16/8/2011 at 06:06

Yup, just in order to make sure we have no free time at all, we're looking for three more researcher/bloggers to contribute to the Travelfish.org site. The positions are all based in southern Thailand and we're looking for applicants who are either living in Thailand, or at least looking to spending a prolonged period in the country. The role is part research, part blogging. You'll be required to research specific areas and blog for us once a week. There is also scope for feature writing and t ...
