I noticed awhile ago that the "Before You Leave" section was missing, and assumed that it would make it's way back, so I didn't say anything. But the link at the top is still a dead one, and the category no longer exists. It's been a couple of months- what's up? I think it's been informative for people before they set out.
Just a note to let you know a couple of changes we're putting through the site at the moment.
New more useful maps
Around 60% of readers—sometimes as high as 75%—now read Travelfish on their phone. As such we've decided to make the maps a good deal more useful, taking advantage of some of the magic of phones.
Destination maps are now accessed via the new “map” icon to the right of the transport icon. Clicking on it opens a map on top of the page you are already on and we mark ...
Hello guys, George here! I’ve been thinking about going to New Zealand, but I’m an amateur as a traveler and know nothing. So, can anyone please help me out, and tell me where to fly and explore and best destinations. Well, help me out as much as you can guys! Thanks to all.. !!! ...
We upgraded some of the server software overnight and that may cause some unforeseen bugs.
If you get any weird errors popping to screen, can you please post the message here so I can look into it please?
Just a quick note to let you all know we've just added a level of paid annual membership to Travelfish. Here's some information about it. If you have any questions, please feel free to post below and I'll answer as best I can.
What is it?
Anyone who is a basic Travelfish member (required to post on the forum) is able to upgrade to premium membership. This costs A$35 (roughly US$26.50) for a year.
What do premium members get?
*) Access to all 150+ travel guides in PDF format. These are ...
Just a bit of house-keeping.
In the old site it was possible for people to start multiple accounts with the single email address. This was a loophole of sorts, which was closed in the redesign at the end of last year.
Because of some upcoming changes to the site, we needed to disable these duplicate accounts. In 99.9% of cases the duplicates were related to spammers, but in some cases members have had multiple accounts under the same address. These duplicates are now being disab ...
Sorry this took so long - been laid up for the last week with what we thought was my third bout of dengue, but turned out to be some other viral disaster.
Anyways, private messaging is now active again. To contact anyone via it, the recipient need to have it activated (they can turn it on and off in the member profile area) and then there is a small envelope displayed at the end of the forum posts - as is below my post here. You click on the envelope and then can send the message.
Every now and then we get a bunch of travel agents (mostly based in Vietnam, but Indian and the Philippines also problematic) posting on Travelfish. Now appears to be one of those times.
We consider these to be spam and they are not welcome on the site.
Here's a simple question to ask yourself while deciding if you should post on Travelfish:
Are you a travel agent or posting on behalf of a travel agent?
If the answer is yes, then don't post.
See that was simple.
In anticipation of ifs, but ...
For somtam, DLuek, or anyone else who can help:
I can't figure out how to use the private messaging feature. I used to know how to do this. I know I used to know how to do this, because my profile includes a list of people I've written via PM, including you both. I can send to folks on this list, but can't find how to send to others.
For the record, I am logged in, my PM is set to enabled, and my profile is public. What am I missing?
Thanks for the help. Cheers. ...
Just a quick note to let you know that we're switching the site over to https (SSL) this weekend. **Hopefully** the change will go smoothly and there will be a minimum to service interruption - ideally none.
We're doing this for a number of reasons, but one of the most pressing reasons is that in Indonesia many telecom providers like Telkomsel hijack websites which are not using a https connection and insert their own idiotic ads onto the site.
In our case, Telkomsel's crappy parasiti ...
Been wondering a couple things since the latest upgrade.
There used to be a button to report spam, etc. Now it's gone so I just report it on a reply post. Is that the best way and/or will there be a Spam/report button/flag any time soon?
Previously could edit posts for a limited time, but now that's gone and I miss it. Any chance that will be coming back? On "that other travel forum" members can edit their post anytime until someone else adds to the thread, which works quite well. Chee ...
Well, I have this doubt that I can't figure out and I haven't found the answer posted anywhere. I don't know how accommodation is sorted in Travelsifh. I love the site, but somehow I don't get the idea when it comes to finding accommodation.
The fact that I'm looking a room in Bangkok doesn't help either )
Can anybody help me here?
Welcome to the new Travelfish, or, well, some of it anyway! It has been a bit of a long and winding road getting here, and we're not quite there yet, but, here we are!
The good news (well, we hope so) is that:
* The new site should be easier to read;
* The content is better organised and centralised around individual destinations;
* The site should be considerably faster;
* The site should render better in phones and tablets;
* There are pretty pics up top (and a lot more to come) ...
Just a quick heads up that we're switching to a new site design this weekend. As a part of the changeover process we need to take the entire existing site offline and replace it with the new one. We'll be doing this from early this coming Saturday morning (Bali time). Hopefully the change shouldn't take more than a couple of hours, but, well, we'll see.
One important change once the new site comes online is all members will be required to reset their password before they can login agai ...
Hello everyone! I am Alexandre. I am newbie here. I love visiting beautiful places. One of my friends tells me about this forum. I hope my stay on this forum really good and according to my expectations.
Have a nice day!!! ...
As regulars will be aware, our moderation is fairly strict relative to other travel forums. Obvious spam, travel agent rubbish, LM, abuse, threats etc all get nuked quickly.
At the moment the post just vanishes publicly when we delete it.
So my questions is would you prefer to have a placeholder left noting that a post has been deleted?
If so, why?
Bear in mind, if we left a placeholder, it would be templated, ie.,
This post was removed because it was: X
Not personalised, ie.,
