Transitions Abroad and Travelfish

Posted by somtam2000 on 28/8/2008 at 09:24

With over 30-years in the business, travel publication Transitions Abroad certainly knows what they're talking about, making us all the more delighted to announce that they've awarded Travelfish Website of the Month for August 2008. In the words of editor Gregory Hubbs, Travelfish "...represents the state-of-the-art in the dissemination of reliable travel destination information." You can read the full August release here and we encourage you to check out the TransitionsAbroad website -- i ...

Happpy New Year!

Posted by somtam2000 on 3/1/2009 at 07:52

Yes, I know, we're late! We've just been totally buried in a complete redesign of the Travelfish site (which was supposed to be finished on, well, New Years...) and so things are all running a little late. Anyways, the redesign should be up pretty soon... lets say another week if the redesign gods smile upon me. In the meantime, Happy New Year to all -- may 2009 brings you absolute bucketloads of 110% satisfying travel experiences -- and thanks again for using Travelfish! Cheers ...

Sorry, but those double underlined "key word" advert things that appear randomly in the texts of people's posts on here drive me nutz. I find them very intrusive and personally I think they make posts a lot harder to read. I appreciate you need to make a living Somtam, but is there any way to block them? I swear you won't be losing any money from me as I wouldn't DREAM of clicking on the wretched things! ...

Hi, I'm packtoofull. People say my pack is always too full but I don't believe in such a thing as a full pack. Somtam & the family are on holidays in Australia for the next week and have left me to steer the good ship Travelfish while theyre away. Updates for Laos and northern Vietnam will continue to appear over the next few days, but other sections will slow down until they are back. Please let me know if you have any questions and I'll try to answer them if I can. Happy travel ...

Top spot in Bali!

Posted by somtam2000 on 16/2/2007 at 08:04

As some may recall, our place was flodded out in the Jakarta floods and we split to Bali to wait for the waters to drop. We spent a little over a week on Bali, with the last few days spent at the rather tremendous Pondok Pisces which, as we don't cover Bali, I thought I'd like to let you know about here. Set overlooking the Balian river which empties out onto the black sand Balian Beach, Pondok Pisces has two three storey bungalows (along with a few other options in another area). They're fu ...

New messageboard icons feature thingy

Posted by somtam2000 on 28/12/2007 at 11:34

We've just added a new feature to the Travelfish forum -- member icons and member profile pages. These display in the left column -- you'll see mine of a temple dog in Pak Tha. The image is clickable to a popup Member Profile page where others can read more about you -- I've filled mine out a bit as a sample. You're also able to add a second image -- sort of a title photo, which displays on the profile page. It's a bit basic for now -- we're open to suggestions on what info you'd like to h ...

New linking added

Posted by somtam2000 on 5/12/2007 at 15:06

Just a quick note, to let you know we're trying out some "linking code" on the forum where, if you type a placename into your message, it will automatically be linked to the relevant section of the site. So if I type Ko Lanta then it should be made into a link. Hope that makes it a little easier to find your way around Travelfish! ...

Take the Travelfish survey and score a Travelfish Guide

Posted by somtam2000 on 6/10/2007 at 16:21

The title really says it all. Spend a few minutes of your time taking part in our survey and we'll credit you with one Travelfish Guide of your choice. The survey is twenty questions and it really won't take long at all to complete -- really! There are only two things I ask: a) You MUST enter your Travelfish member name in the survey (question 19) for me to be able to credit you with a guide. No member name, no guide! b) Please only do it once -- ie we're giving away one guide per me ...

Travelfish and Facebook

Posted by somtam2000 on 21/6/2007 at 19:03

In a series of bouts of procrastination over the last few evenings I've been sucked into the Facebook vortex. I'm not sure I've yet figured out what the purpose of it is, but I figured out how to create a Facebook group -- and have done so. So if there's any Travelfish fans out there on Facebook, please feel free to join the group, and explain what exactly the purpose of the whole thing is! ...
