The title says it all!
We're looking at doing a series of email interviews with travellers who blogs -- or is that bloggers that travel...
Anyway, we're looking to discuss both the technical/practical side of blogging along with the more nebulous topics of why travellers blog and how blogging affects both travellers and the destinations they travel to.
You trip would need to at least be passing through one of the countries we cover.
If you're a blogger and have a site that is tracki ...
If you can't be civil to other members, or feel a pressing need to call people idiots etc, then don't post.
It's simple really.
If you feel the need to abuse other members, you will be banned.
Long-time Travelfish members may remember that we used to sell Travelfish guides in PDF format (you can still grab them here -- no charge, members only). Then we got all wrapped up in producing iPhone apps and stopped doing the PDF guides, as we didn't have time to do both.
We stopped the iPhone apps a year or two back and are now moving full circle -- back to paid-for PDF guides.
What this means is we'll be discontinuing how Travelfish members are able to build their own travel guide.
All PD ...
At the moment Microsoft is not delivering emails from Travelfish to any email accounts from the Hotmail, Outlook, MSN and Live email services.
While this shouldn't impact existing members too much, if you are trying to sign up for an account at Travelfish, the activation email will not be delivered to your mail box (they're not delivering it at all, ie not even to your spam box) so you wan't be able to activate the account, so you won't be able to log in.
So, as a temporary ...
We're having some website weirdness at the moment which we're trying to get to the bottom of. Some people (us included) are finding the site so slow it is unusable. For others though, it is working fine.
If you;re not having problems accessing the site, please say so and mention which country you are in.
From this week's newsletter:
"A bit's been written lately about the growing use of ad-blockers among internet readers so I thought I'd pen a few quick words on them and why, if you do choose to use one, we hope you "whitelist" Travelfish.org.
Travelfish is an advertising-supported website. While the site has a number of revenue streams, including commissions on hotel reservations and insurance, one of the mainstays remains banner advertising. Google supplies the vast majority of ...
I've just made live a new format of the PDF travel guides we're had available on the site for, well, ages.
The new version have pics and maps and more information than the old ones, but we have had to disable the really big ones like Bangkok, Ko Samui, Chiang Mai, Phuket and a few other big islands but we'll have them live in the next week (or so).
Where previously the whole system for making these was kinda buried, we've changed it to be more obvious. So, if you're on the page ...
Just a quick note that Travelfish will be unavailable for about four to six hours later today as we switch over to a new server. We'd planned to do this over the weekend, but the existing server is about to keel over and we need to move house today.
The scheduled offline time is 14:00 - 20:00 GMT +8 (Bali time).
Apologies for any inconvenience - we'll have it back up and running as soon as possible.
Just a quick note to let everyone know that we've removed the ability for reader reviews to be added to the destination, accommodation, food and sights sections of the site. What has already been submitted will remain displayed on the site till next early year when we launch the redesigned site, at which time they will all be removed entirely from the public site.
So, before anything else, thank you to everyone who, over the years, has made the time to submit reviews and updates.
We've been buried in a cave working on a new version of our PDF travel guides and we're almost there. We'll be shutting down the existing system for building your own shortly and switching to a new method which creates shiny ones.
This is close to a final version, but any feedback, as always, much appreciated. It is designed primarily for use on tablets and phones, but prints off just fine for those who prefer paper.
When we switch to the new system (next Friday I think) any exis ...
Hi everyone. I'm Tim and I'm looking to take a trip to Southeast Asia. While I'm sure most of what I need to know I can find on this website, I have a few general questions.
If everything worked out perfectly, I would be going to Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Vietnam, hopefully a little time in Singapore and if I'm lucky Indonesia.
I'd say I'm looking to go for about 2 months. I have $5000 to spend before gear, flights or anything else is spent. How realistic is the time with the money I ...
Since I'm new here I don't know if this question already has been addressed. Just curious if Travelfish has any future plans to expand coverage to other countries or regions like South America, Central America, Europe? Or will it continue to focus on Asia only? ...
Regular Travelfishers may have noticed a slight change on our homepage. We used to have a great Travelfish recommendation from leading travel publisher Lonely Planet displayed along with a small Lonely Planet logo as attribution for the quote.
Obviously, as a small business, we were extremely flattered to have Lonely Planet say what they did about Travelfish.
This morning, on 19 March 2009, we received an email from the Infringements Co-ordinator at Lonely Planet.
She informed us that t ...
We're in the semi-final stages of moving content around in prep for the redesign and there will be some temporary weirdness, particularly on the blogs as we progressively shut them down and move content from the blogs back over into the destination guides.
You may find that some places you have bookmarked have gone missing and there are problems with the PDF guides which we hope to have fixed in the coming days.
Apols in advance for any hassles in this regard.
Was wondering if increasing the time limit before you are logged out or even offering a stay logged in option is possible.
I like to write long winded replies and it is quite annoying logging in then typing post just to have to back up, copy text, re-login, past text and submit post. Time limit must only be half hour or something like that(maybe an hour, I am quite slow sometimes...) but it could be a few hours at least imo. ...
We've been busy with a redesign for a while now and I'm looking for a few regular Travelfish members who have a bit of time to help us out looking at mockups of different pages for the site. It won't be a big time sink, but we'd ask you to look at a page now and then -- probably once a week at this stage, tell us what you think and answer a few specific questions that we'd have for you related to that particular mockup.
If you're interested to help out, please let me know in this ...
Possibly being very dense here but I can't work out where I create personalised guides nor how I can download/extract anything currently on here. The only option I can see is the 52 week free ebook. I'm going to Singapore, Bali, Sydney and Dubai on honeymoon (in 2 weeks) and wanted to take some information to read and reseacrh. Any help and/or guidance would be extremely appreciated.

I'm not sure if it's me or whether the search function could be improved.
When I enter "phnom penh to bangkok" I get a whole list of relevant posts. However, it's completely unclear when these posts were made and I can only find out the date of post once I've opened the post. Then I discover that a post is from 2007, the one above from 2009 and the one after from 2008. In short, I have no idea on which to click to find the most recent post.
A few suggestions:
- don't show any posts o ...
