Best place to dive in Thai/Laos/Viet/Cambodia

Posted by HexagonalBolts on 26/6/2011 at 21:35

Hello all, I was planning to go diving in Ko Tao but I recently read a post where someone described it as 'not fantastic' which made me very sad (I would kill to see a whale shark!). I know this is a subjective question, but where do you believe the most exceptional place to dive in these four countries is? I have done my open water and about five or six fairly normal/plain dives in Europe (bar one where I got to see lots of big grouper). ...

Do I need to be certified to dive in Thailand?

Posted by jenc12 on 7/2/2012 at 11:11

Hi everyone, I am going to be in Thailand in April (landing in Phuket, planning to spend some time around that area) and am wondering if I need to have any certification to dive there? I won't have time to do a full course in Thailand. Is there a crash course kind of thing that would show me the ropes/allow me to do it (I've gone diving before just never gotten around to taking the course) or is it better to do the online course/pool sessions at home with PADI beforehand and do the open water p ...

SE Asia Diving Recommendations

Posted by csawala on 22/6/2011 at 15:12

I will be in SE Asia between August and ... maybe January/February? and I am already open water licensed with PADI, and advanced open water with NAUI. I am just wondering what are must dive sites. I am starting my trip in July in China, heading south to Vietnam and definitely going to Phu Quoc, then on to Sihanoukville in Cambodia. After that I just want to get to as many other sites I can get to before I run out of money (while still seeing the touristy and scenic places along the way). I ...

where to find divers?

Posted by alexrtw on 27/10/2011 at 07:02

I'm looking for a forum or network to connect with local divers around the world. I'm about to leave for a Round The World tour and wanted to dive in as many countries as possible. A diver friend suggested the PADI Travel network [], but before joining, I wanted to see if anybody here has ever tried it and if they recommend it. Thanks! ...

Learn to dive Thailand/Cambodia in September

Posted by lainey on 3/7/2011 at 21:17

Hi I'm trying to decide where to learn to dive, in either Thailand or Cambodia. I'll be there in the wet season unfortunately (6 to 12 September). Does anyone have any suggestions, taking into account the season? In Thailand I've been looking at Koh Tao, Ko Pha Ngan and Krabi (and surrounding beaches, including Ao Phang Nga and Hat Phra Nang / Railay). I've been told that Khao Lak, Ko Mak and Ko Ngai are beautiful too. I'm having trouble working out where I can get PADI certified and where is ...

diving certification

Posted by megeb on 10/6/2011 at 05:19

Hey y'all! A friend and I will be traveling throughout SE Asia from October 2011-January 2012, during which time we plan to get PADI certified. We are planning to do the certification in either Indonesia or Malaysia, so I am looking for input on which one is better and why? Has anyone done a great program in either of these countries that they would recommend? What about cost comparison? Thanks in advance for all of your input! ...

Hi My girlfriend and i are travelling across SE Asia and want to learn to dive somewhere on our route. We will be travelling across the whole of Thailand and Cambodia and the East coast of Malaysia. We really want to fit diving into our trip but are concerned about costs firstly and safety secondly. Make the island your home! We're looking for an Eco Minded Dive Operator

Posted by deborahchan on 1/6/2011 at 14:20

Wild Asia is on the lookout for an eco-minded dive operator with an entrepreneurial passion to spearhead a new initiative on a small island off Tioman (east coast of Malaysia). We are envisaging the creation of a dive operation that will be modelled around a social enterprise - a business that not only provides conventional dive services to guests but also to extend our conservation efforts to the wider reef and island resources. The social enterprise will be developed in partnership with an isl ...

Diving in Vietnam, Nha Trang. Reviews?

Posted by DomesticG on 3/8/2010 at 12:58

Hi there, Can I get some experience from people who have dived in Vietnam - Nha Trang before? I saw some pictures and they look pretty nice but asked a friend who came back from there, she commented that there's nothing much to see. Just the very usual marine life. No sharks, rays or turtles... To me, its fine, since I am just there to do my courses but it would be a bonus if the visibility is good and marine life is abundant. Basically I'm just looking for a place that teaches OW & AOW ...

Hello all! Ive never dived before, and since my time in SE Asia is limited to two months, shall I spend three days getting my PADI certificate or is it not worth the time? Vietnam in October

Posted by Lodestar on 26/9/2009 at 23:16

Hi! Looking for some advice on dive spots in Vietnam in October. Where would you go? And why? Right now torn between Phu Quoc and the Cham island. Also was considering Nha Trang, but the overall scenery is in my opinion inferior to the first two, as we are also looking for some chill time in a hammock under a palm tree between or after dives, then would prefer something less built up and more natural. Location wise would prefer Cham, as we are going to Hoi An anyways, we are short on tim ...

Posted by bails87 on 23/7/2010 at 17:43

Hi I posted on here a while ago, planning a trip in August and September, including some time on Koh Tao to learn to dive at the start of the trip. Due to work uncertainties and me 'faffing' about, I've been researching and planning, and buying things fo rhte trip, but haven't booked anything. So now the plan is to go in October and November, putting me on Koh Tao in the first 2 weeks of October. Basically, is this a reasonable time to go for a diving course on Koh Tao, as the info on this s ...

Wrecks on Koh Tao

Late last year a new artificial reef was created on Koh Tao. A liveaboard vessel was decommisioned and made safe for the environment and then sunk just off the south of Koh Tao. A local film company filmed the sinking and even had camera on board. I think this film is great and wanted to share it ! ...

Sharks of Koh Tao

As a long term resident and diver on Koh Tao, I can tell you that each year the return of the sharks to Chumphon Pinnacle is eagerly awaited and then much celebrated too. And then the debate starts once again.... Are these magnificent animals grey reefs or are they bulls.....check out the images and information and decide for yourself..... ...
