The circle line is changing rapidly
There are 2 types of trains now
One being a sealed window and dirty , air conditioned train , comfortable seats etc and the other is the old style open carriages
I took the a/c one as I was told by the station master that this was it
After the first few stations checking that I was "he train" I was totally bored and after getting halfway decided to abandon this train and wait for another to see if it was different
It was as brilliant as all stories s ...
I am planning my trip to Burma, which will be from 10 to 2 August 2015. It will be a "classic" trip including the most important sightseeing. We like not to rush from one place to another (we prefer to see less places, but better!). Here is our provisional program:
1. Arrival to Mandalay (from Bangkok) at 12:30, Mandalay centre in the afternoon,
2. Mandalay area ancient cities
3. Enjoy Mandalay life (markets, cooking class)
4. From Mandalay to Bagan (by boat proba ...
I will be arriving in Yangon in little under two weeks and, though I have prepared some notes on where to stay and recommended eats, I would welcome recommendations from those who have been in recent times.
For Yangon, I am yet to book anything but will likely stay at the Garden Guesthouse.
Mandalay is proving somewhat more tricky - ET Hostel's prices seem to have spiralled in recent years, so, ideally, I am looking for a cheaper option.
Bagan has a range of places, but have been advised, no ...

Does hand done laundry dry over night?
M maybe not in Yangon where there seems to be more humidity, but in Kalaw? bagan? Mandalay? Inle Lake area?
In vietnam the humidity was so bad that our laundry took days to dry. We were constantly packing wet laundry and it was awful.
Thanks in advance. ...
I am going to travel to Burma for 3 weeks starting on Friday. I have heard that the monsoon was heavy in the western and northern parts (Sagaing region, Chin state..) of the country but not sure about the rest.
I am planing to follow the touristic plan Mandalay-Pakkoku-Kalaw-Inle Lake- Yangoun.
How bad do you think it is over there ? Any recommendations or places to avoid ?
Your help would be really appreciated !
Thanks in advance
Myself and a friend will be traveling norther Burma from the 21st to the 29th of August. We are flying in and out of Mandalay and are planning on visiting Bagan and Inle Lake as well. Need some advice for some things to see and do. Help a brother out! ...
Husband and I are gearing up for a second attempt at exploring Myanmar (the first, at the start of 2015, thwarted by emergency surgery the day before planned departure), and I am pretty much sticking to my original planned itinerary except for two things - one of which is mode of travel between Yangon and Chiang Mai after visiting Burma.
I would really like to travel overland, if possible, and I am reading conflicting stories concerning the Myawaddy>Mae Sot border crossing. A lot of the i ...
In the travelfish Tachilek pdf guide it stated that "500 baht for a temporary Burma entry pass. (Dollars no longer accepted.)" is NOT correct. As of the last week of April 2015, sorry can't remember the exact date, when I crossed over, US$ 10 bill was still accepted. Just don't ask them "how much ?".
Just hand over your passport with a US$ 10 bill and they will take it. I am a long term foreign resident of Thailand and have been doing that every three months that I cross ove ...
we've planned 4 days in yangon after Inle lake but rather than fly to yangon does anyone have any suggestions for an overland route? We could cut Yangon down to 2 days as we are not too bothered about being in a capital city for this long. for example is it possible to travel to Yangon via Loikaw? Thanks ...
Dear Travelfish friends,
Really excited to be planning a trip to Myanmar, where we've never been, for December. Been doing a tonne of research online, but feeling overwhelmed while attempting to build the ideal itinerary. Would really appreciate if you could share your thoughts on the one we are planning to tackle. Any ideas on routing, pace, suggestions and critiques are more than welcome, they are really appreciated.

I've read lot's of posts in this forum and got many good ideas, but I would still like some comments on my first plan /idea for 16 Days in Myanmar in March. Since it will be my first time to visit this interesting country any comments, tips or guidance is more than welcome.
I will fly from BGK to Mandalay on 6th of March and on 22nd morning I will depart from Yangon to BGK.
My idea for trip is following:
6.03 (noon) arrive Mandalay, spend the day in the city, exploring around
Just starting to think about my Myanmar trip for January 2016. I'm wondering if anyone has any updated information about internal flights? Procedures? I see some companies have online booking but is it easier/recommended to book all of my internal flights once I get to Yangon? If using a travel agency, does anyone have any recommendations? I'll probably be staying downtown near Chinatown somewhere.
After a lot of reading here on Travefish the time has come to make my first post. Hopefully the first of many more to come. This forum already helped me to plan a big part of my trip and now I'm struggling to plan the Burma part.
The earliest we can get to Southeast Asia is the 27th of April. We arrive in BKK and plan to spend the night to take the earliest flight to Burma the next morning.
We want to get 3 places covered in 2 weeks: Yangon , Ngapali Beach and Baga ...
Has anyone recently had any problems entering Yangon or elsewhere in Myanmar without a return ticket? Does the immigration officer question you at all about the return ticket? I do have a return ticket from Bangkok, should that suffice? Also, I will be entering Yangon with a visa approval letter obtained online with the new e-visa system. Has anyone had any problems with that? ...
