The circle line is changing rapidly There are 2 types of trains now One being a sealed window and dirty , air conditioned train , comfortable seats etc and the other is the old style open carriages I took the a/c one as I was told by the station master that this was it After the first few stations checking that I was "he train" I was totally bored and after getting halfway decided to abandon this train and wait for another to see if it was different It was as brilliant as all stories s ...

17 days in Burma: can you help me?
Posted by Telegrafista on 14/3/2015 at 13:08Hi there, I am planning my trip to Burma, which will be from 10 to 2 August 2015. It will be a "classic" trip including the most important sightseeing. We like not to rush from one place to another (we prefer to see less places, but better!). Here is our provisional program: 1. Arrival to Mandalay (from Bangkok) at 12:30, Mandalay centre in the afternoon, 2. Mandalay area ancient cities 3. Enjoy Mandalay life (markets, cooking class) 4. From Mandalay to Bagan (by boat proba ...

Another 'which guesthouse' do you recommend thread! Myanmar (2015)
Posted by yozza2009 on 29/3/2015 at 07:53Hi, I will be arriving in Yangon in little under two weeks and, though I have prepared some notes on where to stay and recommended eats, I would welcome recommendations from those who have been in recent times. For Yangon, I am yet to book anything but will likely stay at the Garden Guesthouse. Mandalay is proving somewhat more tricky - ET Hostel's prices seem to have spiralled in recent years, so, ideally, I am looking for a cheaper option. Bagan has a range of places, but have been advised, no ...

Any recent Myawaddy-Mae Sot experiences?
Posted by blvdve on 9/7/2015 at 05:47Husband and I are gearing up for a second attempt at exploring Myanmar (the first, at the start of 2015, thwarted by emergency surgery the day before planned departure), and I am pretty much sticking to my original planned itinerary except for two things - one of which is mode of travel between Yangon and Chiang Mai after visiting Burma. I would really like to travel overland, if possible, and I am reading conflicting stories concerning the Myawaddy>Mae Sot border crossing. A lot of the i ...

Border Crossing to Tachilek - US$ 10 accepted, no need to pay 500 Bahts
Posted by kaythuaung1 on 19/6/2015 at 22:46In the travelfish Tachilek pdf guide it stated that "500 baht for a temporary Burma entry pass. (Dollars no longer accepted.)" is NOT correct. As of the last week of April 2015, sorry can't remember the exact date, when I crossed over, US$ 10 bill was still accepted. Just don't ask them "how much ?". Just hand over your passport with a US$ 10 bill and they will take it. I am a long term foreign resident of Thailand and have been doing that every three months that I cross ove ...

Hi, Just starting to think about my Myanmar trip for January 2016. I'm wondering if anyone has any updated information about internal flights? Procedures? I see some companies have online booking but is it easier/recommended to book all of my internal flights once I get to Yangon? If using a travel agency, does anyone have any recommendations? I'll probably be staying downtown near Chinatown somewhere. Cheers! Andrea ...

Has anyone recently had any problems entering Yangon or elsewhere in Myanmar without a return ticket? Does the immigration officer question you at all about the return ticket? I do have a return ticket from Bangkok, should that suffice? Also, I will be entering Yangon with a visa approval letter obtained online with the new e-visa system.
